Exciting New iPhone Feature: Coming Soon!

Apple is set to launch its highly anticipated iOS 17 update this fall, bringing many exciting new features to iPhone users. Having tested the beta version for the past few weeks, one standout feature, called StandBy, has captured my attention.

By transforming your iPhone into a sophisticated bedside clock, StandBy revolutionizes the traditional concept of an alarm clock and offers a range of impressive functionalities.

StandBy Mode in iOS 17

To enjoy the StandBy feature, your iPhone must be equipped with MagSafe technology, available on iPhone 12 models or newer.

Once activated, StandBy takes advantage of your device’s MagSafe capabilities to provide a seamless and enhanced bedside clock experience.

Gone are the days of relying on a primary alarm clock to wake you up in the morning. With StandBy, your iPhone becomes a versatile companion that tells the time and offers a range of practical features tailored to enhance your daily routine.

Its intuitive design allows you to effortlessly glance at your iPhone’s screen to check the time, ensuring you never miss a necessary appointment or deadline.

However, StandBy offers much more than just a simple clock. Its integration with various apps and services makes it a central hub for managing daily tasks and activities.

From displaying your upcoming calendar events and reminders to providing weather updates and personalized news briefings, StandBy keeps you informed and prepared for the day ahead.

Moreover, StandBy leverages advanced sensors and machine-learning algorithms to optimize your sleep experience. Tracking your sleep patterns and analyzing data provides valuable insights into your sleep quality, duration, and disturbances.

With this knowledge, you can make informed decisions to improve your sleep hygiene and overall well-being.

StandBy Mode in iOS 17

The remarkable StandBy mode within the upcoming iOS 17 update offers an array of capabilities to transform your iPhone into an all-inclusive bedside clock.

Whether you prefer a modern approach or enjoy the classic charm of traditional watches, StandBy has you covered with its diverse features.

With a simple swipe, StandBy allows you to elevate your morning routine by conveniently accessing essential information.

By propping yourself up in bed and effortlessly swiping, you can effortlessly stay updated on upcoming calendar events, check the day’s weather forecast, and get a quick overview of notifications—all in one place.

For those who appreciate the timeless elegance of a bedside clock, StandBy presents a collection of captivating watch faces that add a touch of sophistication to your sleeping sanctuary.

Choose from a range of visually appealing designs to suit your taste and enhance the aesthetics of your bedside table.

No matter your preference, StandBy ensures that your iPhone goes beyond its primary function and becomes an indispensable tool for managing your daily activities.

Embrace the versatility of StandBy mode and enjoy the convenience of having a comprehensive information hub at your fingertips while preserving the charm of a classic bedside clock.

StandBy mode in the upcoming iOS 17 update proves its versatility by seamlessly integrating into your desk and bedside environments. Users can use StandBy’s functionality to display a captivating rotation of photos from their image library, akin to popular smart home hub devices like those from Amazon or Google.

Apple Standby.

Whether your iphone is stationed on your bedside table or your desk, StandBy ensures seamless access to Siri’s capabilities. By saying, “Siri, how long will it take me to get to work?” or “Siri, turn off the bedroom lights and play music by Miles Davis,” you can effortlessly control your surroundings and retrieve helpful information, enhancing your daily routine.

StandBy mode won’t disrupt your sleep with a bright screen. Your iPhone intelligently adjusts the screen brightness or even turns off the display entirely when you switch off the lights, ensuring a comfortable sleeping environment.

Apple has also introduced a special night mode, inspired by the Apple Watch Ultra, which switches the clock, calendar, and text to a soothing red colour, reducing eye strain during nighttime use.

In addition to its practical features, StandBy mode allows you to enable notifications that provide detailed information from your apps. For instance, in the case of a UPS delivery, you can receive a notice specifying the estimated arrival time of your gardening gloves.

For the optimal StandBy experience, the iPhone 14 Pro, equipped with an always-on display, is recommended. However, users with other iPhone models can still benefit from StandBy, as the screen turns off and can be easily reactivated with a simple tap.

As a pro tip for those eager to explore this feature upon its fall release, investing in a MagSafe charger stand is recommended to conveniently position your iPhone on your bedside table while it charges. A popular option is the Anker stand, priced at $40, which sets your iPhone and simultaneously accommodates your AirPods.

How to set up StandBy Mode in iOS 17

To set up StandBy mode in iOS 17, you have two options: wait until the official release for everyone or try it out early by installing the iOS 17 public beta, bearing in mind that there may be some system bugs. Once you have taken the desired route, follow these simple steps:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Locate and tap on “StandBy” in the settings menu.
  3. Toggle the StandBy mode switch to the “On” position.
  4. If you own an iPhone 14 Pro or Pro Max and wish to keep the screen constantly active, select “Always On” under the Display settings.
  5. Opt for Night Mode if you prefer the text to be displayed with a soothing red tint.
  6. Decide whether you want to receive notifications while in StandBy mode and configure the option accordingly.

When ready for bed, place your iPhone on a charging stand in landscape mode or sideways. StandBy mode will automatically activate and display the last screen you used, whether the clock, photo gallery, or calendar, ensuring a seamless transition into your personalized bedside experience.
